Publisher: Amsterdam Art Centre b.v. - Print: printed in the studio of master printer Piet Clement, Amsterdam - Pol Mara introduced photorealistic elements in his work in the early sixties, in which he thematically connects with the emerging mass communication through "appropriations" directly from other media such as television, film and illustrated magazines. In this he comes close to, for example, the American Rauschenberg, but in the Flemish he was the odd one out. Nevertheless, the qualities of his work could not be ignored and he received many official awards. The memory of Pol Mara is kept alive by the Musée Pol Mara in Gordes (France).
