Large Chinese hexagonal tureen with peach-shaped lid with tray. Estimated value €700-€1000. Porcelain. Republic of China period (1912-1949). Afm. 39cm x 27cm x 22cm. In Chinese, "peach" is translated as 桃 (táo). It can also be used as a noun, "táo zi (桃子)". The word "táo (桃)" also has symbolic meaning in Chinese culture, particularly representing longevity and immortality. In Chinese culture, the peach is strongly associated with longevity and immortality. It is believed that the Queen Mother of the West (西王母, Xī Wángmǔ) had peach trees in her garden whose fruit granted immortality according to Chinese mythology. The tureen, the lid and the tray are in excellent condition.
