About this lot
Publisher: Amsterdam Art Centre b.v. - Print: printed in the studio of master printer Piet Clement, Amsterdam - Dan Van Severen was a Belgian painter who was a representative of abstract painting. Characteristic were his simple geometric motifs: square, rectangle, diamond, circle and oval. His drawings sometimes consisted of a single line. From the combination of square and rectangle he later distilled the cross shape, the universal sign, which formed the final key to all his compositions. The cross is always present in his later work. During Expo 58, he joined friends and acquaintances from the avant-garde milieu to form the G58 group. His paintings are exhibited in the SMAK, the Muhka and Mu.ZEE, among others. Dan van Severen's sons were also artists. Maarten van Severen (1956-2005) was a furniture designer and interior architect and Fabian a designer.
