Beautiful screen print in a beautiful colour palette - Van Vessem studied from 1959 to 1962 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam.
Van Vessem had his first exhibition in 1968 in De Doelen in Rotterdam. He was co-initiator of several institutions. For example, in 1973 he co-founded the Open Art Foundation, which aims to facilitate workshops and courses for professional artists, and in 1978 he founded Grafisch Atelier Rijnmond with a number of others. In the rest of his career, Van Vessem was also involved in many initiatives, such as Wendrich Art Editions, De Lijn and a graphic workshop Orion for the mentally handicapped. In 1983 Van Vessem took part in Art Basel. He has traveled to and temporarily stayed in France, New York, India and Spain, among others.
Van Vessem's work has been exhibited in the Netherlands and abroad. In 1999 he had a retrospective exhibition at Museum Jan van der Togt in Amstelveen, where he received the knighthood at the opening.
